Europe’s leading research and innovation organisations in NMP

To implement the core FIT-4-NMP project idea of connecting the talented newcomers to top innovators to increase the talented newcomers’ participation in NMP research in Horizon Europe, it was first necessary to categories a wide range of scientific domains relevant to nanotechnologies, advanced materials and new manufacturing processes (NMP).

Following the logic of the European NMP research reorganisation caused by the transition from Horizon 2020 to Horizon Europe, FIT-4-NMP uses the following categories of NMP domains:

  • Advanced Materials

  • Manufacturing Technologies

  • Circular Industries and Clean Industries

NMP subdomains, in their turns, were defined in a clear alignment with the strategic research and innovation priorities of European level initiatives supporting NMP research.

For the identified NMP domains and subdomains, the lists of the most prolific publishing and patenting organisations – i.e. European top innovators – were created following an analysis Web of Science database for research publications and the PATSTAT database for EPO and PCT patent applications.
